Interim Principal Elizabeth Meador

Dear Aspen Middle School Parents,

I want to welcome you to the 2019-20 School Year! It is with great pride that I take the role of Interim Principal at the middle school.  I have heard great things about the Aspen School District, the community of families here, as well as the educators that work with your children every day. I know that all of the staff join me in saying that we can’t wait to see the school teeming with students next week!

A little bit about me - I began my career as an educator at the Aspen Community School some 30 years ago.  I was drawn to the school because of the progressive nature of its program. From there I launched into a deep study of education and earned a doctorate in multicultural education from the University of Colorado in 2000.  Multicultural education has been at the forefront of addressing equity issues in schools, a topic that I am passionate about. I’ve been a tenure-track professor in the California State University system for most of my career, although I jumped ship more than once to take on leadership positions in schools that took progressive, experiential education seriously.

I have great confidence in the direction that the Aspen Middle School is heading. I think the school’s focus on a positive school climate is timely in that we know how important emotional intelligence is in our world today.  After all, if we are expecting our young people to be global citizens, let’s make sure they are kind and compassionate to the people they encounter.

I want to assure you that I take the stewardship of our young people very seriously, and appreciate that you have entrusted them to us. I look forward to a rich and rewarding year as the Interim Principal of Aspen Middle School.

Best wishes,

Elizabeth Meador, PhD
