  • Ex Ed takes on social/emotional issues in new Aspen High School course

    Experiential Education has been a mainstay at the Aspen High School for many years. For one week early in the academic year students and teachers bond through unique shared experiences. But upon return to “real life” those connections can fade as the activities and pressures of school set in.

  • Aspen Board of Education Academy

    Every year ASD board members try to attend the National School Association’s annual convention. It’s a wonderful opportunity to see what other districts are doing and consider best practices. Something that inspired us this past year, which we loved, is what we’re calling our “Board Academy”.

  • District Accountability Committee looks forward to serving ASD students

    The Colorado Department of Education established the District Accountability Committee (DAC) to work with their school boards to review priorities, spending, special areas of study, assessment tools, and assisting the district with developing a parent engagement policy. The DAC has been a vital partner of the Board of Education and the District in helping the students receive the very best education possible.

  • Aspen School District plans for the future of education

    With the growth of the Aspen area comes the need to analyze the Aspen School District campus. The District is starting a comprehensive Master Facility Planning initiative that will look at where the facilities are and what the needs may be 20 to 30 years from now.

  • Aspen School District to expand current housing site

    Teacher and staff housing options have often been a struggle for the Aspen School District. While beautiful, Aspen is an expensive place to live and housing choices are limited. Currently, the District owns 44 properties spread between Aspen, Snowmass, Basalt, and Woody Creek.

  • Aspen School District makes the grade

    For the last 20 years, the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) has taken a snapshot of how the schools and districts around the state are performing and how they compare to one another. Last year, Aspen Elementary school and Aspen High school were penalized due to low standardized testing participation at the high school and in the elementary school for low achievement scores. Those disappointing results put the two schools into the “improvement” category.
