Degrees and Certifications:

Margaret Hancock

I have been in the field of education for 20 years. Originally from Rhode Island, I hold a BA from Middlebury College in Vermont and a Master of Arts in Teaching degree, with a focus in Elementary Education, from Brown University. I first moved to Aspen in 2001 to work at ACES before turning my focus towards classroom education. After earning my graduate degree, I became a 2nd grade teacher here at Aspen Elementary School. Realizing a true passion for literacy instruction, I then pursued a professional opportunity teaching and studying at an independent school in New England for students with language-based learning difficulties. There I completed the coursework and practicum to become an Orton-Gillingham instructor and tutor, while teaching in a 3rd grade classroom. I moved back to Aspen two years later with a growing family and became a private tutor for a few years. Jumping at the chance to come back to AES, I joined the Reading Department from 2014-2016, took one last hiatus when my third child was born, and returned again to my current position in 2019. I absolutely love my job, as it allows me to help students find their greatest potential and to work with an amazing set of professionals, all in a community I love!
