Emily Burnham

I am incredibly excited and grateful to be joining Aspen Middle School as a fifth grade math teacher. I taught fourth grade at Aspen Elementary School before joining the middle school in 2020. I am astounded every year at the growth and development that students make, and fifth grade is especially pivotal and significant. I am looking forward to guiding my students in becoming successful and lifelong mathematicians and critical thinkers.

I am happy to share that I am a Colorado native originally from Fort Collins. I attended the University of Colorado in Boulder, and lived in Boulder for many years before moving to the Roaring Fork Valley. I was a fourth and fifth grade teacher in St. Vrain Valley School District during that time. During this time I also completed a Master of Arts in Teaching through the University of Northern Colorado. Additionally, I spent a year in Italy teaching fourth grade at the International School of Trieste during the 2012-2013 school year and enjoyed living abroad and experiencing life in a different culture.

When I'm not in my classroom I enjoy hiking, skiing, camping, cooking, reading, and traveling. I have been fortunate enough to travel to many corners of the world, including staying in the foothills of the Himalayas with a nomadic Tibetan family, scuba diving at the Great Barrier Reef, trekking in Nepal, sunning in Croatia, and roadtripping in Iceland. I am really looking forward to sharing adventures with my students this year through the middle school's exceptional outdoor education program.
