ASD's Tiny House Project grabs attention for creating housing options

They set out to raise $30,000 for Outdoor Education.

They would run, they said.

They would ask friends and family to sponsor them for every lap they ran around the high school track.

Tuesday morning, they put on their Fun Run t-shirts. They did some stretching. They did some laughing.

And then they ran for the money.

They raised more than $55,000.

They danced. They threw cartwheels.

They celebrated.

Aspen Elementary School Students Run for the Money

Aspen Flight Academy is throwing an Aviation Gala to support local students becoming pilots.

AFA, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization nestled in the heart of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, is dedicated to nurturing the dreams of aspiring aviators from the Aspen School District and Roaring Fork School District. 

Their mission is to provide them with the skills and knowledge needed to spread their wings and become certified pilots.

The Aviation Gala is from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Atlantic Aviation hangar at the Aspen/Pitkin County Airport. [CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS.](https://supportafa.org/)

The gala promises an evening filled with elegance, entertainment, and excitement. Highlights include: special guest, Kevin LaRosa, Top Gun Maverick Cinematographer and pilot; dinner; dancing; auction and live music.

Attendees are invited to dress up and embrace the spirit of flight for "A Night In Fighter Town." Pilot costumes are encouraged.

New landscape at AHS. What is it?

A newly remodeled and designed Aspen High School's Cafe - school cafeteria - is nearly finished.

Construction crews are revamping the space into a hip Cafe. The redesign includes new, upgraded and increased commons furniture to include community style seating that encourages students to stay on campus.

"Think of the SkiCo experience," said Tenille Folk, ASD Chef & Director of Food Services. "The Cafe will have a remodeled service line for our grab-n-go and a la carte items -- it will be more efficient and will be a better experience for students."

The Cafe remodel is expected to be completed in early September.

In the meantime, Folk's team created an outdoor lunch experience for students this first week of school.

**Matt Zubrod from Little Nell** sent a food trailer, where Folk could serve a la carte and grab-n-go items like pizza and bottled water.

**Kaleb Anderson from Maroon Creek Club** sent a large golf cart for Folk's team to transport hot lunches from the middle school cafeteria.

"The weather was perfect and the students didn't seem to mind picnic style lunching," Folk said. "We are so grateful to our community partners. When they heard that our Cafe wasn't quite ready, they sent help. It's amazing."
