School closures due to inclement weather
In the event of inclement weather, Aspen School District uses a variety of resources to determine if conditions exist that warrant school closures. The district's Transportation Director closely monitors ongoing weather reports and follows several weather forcasting services. He also considers local road conditions by driving on the roads, monitoring conditions and snowplowing efforts; and communicates directly with the Superintendent. If conditions exist that pose a threat to student or staff safety, the district will make every effort to announce a decision to close schools between 6:00-6:30 a.m. School closures will be communicated in several different ways, including:

To minimize schedule disruptions, the Aspen School District will not call for a delayed start. Schools will either be open or closed during inclement weather.

When schools are closed all scheduled activities in the school building are canceled and sports events and practices are postponed.

If schools are open but a parent feels, based on personal circumstances, that conditions pose a safety concern for their child getting to or from school they can call the school for an excused absence.
