We hope you and your families are staying healthy during these extraordinary and challenging times. Even though we won’t be meeting in person for a while, we wanted to reach out to assure you that we are here to help you with any questions you may have as it relates to your post-secondary planning. To that end, we have a few bits of information we would like to share with you:
Many of you will be hearing back from your colleges in the next few weeks. We hope you remember that your college acceptances/rejections will not define you and your path. It is what you do at college and beyond that defines you.
Please remember to use Naviance to update your acceptances, waitlists, and rejections, so that we can be better prepared to counsel you should you need our advice.
Remember to check your emails and your college application portals for important messages from your colleges.
For those of you trying to decide which college to attend, please know that many colleges are offering virtual tours, and some are even offering to connect you with current students to discuss their experiences. So check the college websites and/or your emails/application portals. Charlie, Susanne, and Karen can also endeavor to connect you with AHS alumni who may be at the school as well.
Please use the online scheduler to make appointments with Charlie or Karen, or email any of us with specific questions.
Many colleges are postponing the May 1 decision date to June 1 or later. NACAC has provided an online tool as a central resource for information about changes in college admission events, deposit dates, and more as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. Of course, the college admissions offices will always be the best resource for your specific questions as well.
College Counseling wishes all of you a healthy and safe break from school, and we look forward to seeing you again in person when school re-opens.

SENIORS - CLASS OF 2020
Thanks to a well attended Senior BOOTCAMP and 1st SENIOR & PARENT EVENING MEETING we are off to a great start. To keep the momentum going, Senior ROUNDTABLES begin on Wednesday, September 11 and are offered every Wednesday afternoon (from 4-6pm in the Seminar Room) through December 18th where professional tutors and trained volunteers are on hand to help students one-on-one with essays and supplements. In addition, the entire College Counseling Team is available daily during Access for quick questions, check-ins, Naviance/Common App help, etc.
All seniors should schedule two individual parent/student meetings with college counseling - one in September, one in October/November. An application submission meeting may also be scheduled to assist students in submitting their first college application.
In the meantime, please make sure that your Naviance list of "colleges I am applying to" is accurate and that all deadlines are listed properly.
Remember, students (not AHS) are responsible for ordering ACT or SAT test scores to be sent to schools where you are applying. It can take up to two weeks for scores to arrive, so please plan accordingly. For example, students with November 1st deadlines should order scores no later than October 18th.
We look forward to staying in touch over the next several months.
