Annie Thompson

Adopted and raised an Alaskan girl by teachers in a small fishing community, the stage for adventure in education was set at an early age. As a fourth-generation educator, I have been blessed with varied experiences as follows:

~elementary PE

~middle school library management

~self-contained 3rd grade

~gifted and talented programming & STEAM teaching K-4

~self-contained 5th grade, as well as teaming (Reading/ELA and Social Studies)

~7th grade Reading/ELA (current)

I have also coached cross country running and track and field at the high school levels, and currently coach both sports at the middle school. Oh, and I drive a school bus, too. :)

My draw to the Aspen Schools in 2002 from Oregon, where my teaching career began in 1999, was strong with the unique forces of the outstanding Outdoor Education programs, the amazing staff, and a small all-encompassing campus where I can be a stone’s throw away from my husband, Jared (AES PE Teacher) and our own two kids at AHS, 10th-grader Bridger and 9th-grader Araya.

I am blessed to be part of the stellar 7th-grade team of teachers. Seventh grade was a memorable year for me as a writer, with an instructor who encouraged outside-the-box projects and inspired expanded creativity and voice. I hope to offer a similar turning point for my students.
